Mr. Miati
/Couldn’t really decide if I wanted to list this car under a build or a travel adventure. It honestly has such a story behind it and for 3 and a half years, I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of time it’d take to share it. Lil guy was my ride home from a cross country bicycling trip in 2018 and played a huge role in my introduction to “van life.” Took the convertible down the west coast, along which I met this islander who’d built this secret frisbee golf course in the woods behind his purple house. Hair pinned south of San Diego and headed toward a double rainbow in the Grand Canyon. Stopped and saw some friends in Denver and Indiana, some family and a T-Pain concert in Pennsylvania. Headed south and got stranded with a flat tire and no tools on a Sunday in Gastonia, only an hour and a half away from the home I didn’t have. Such a surreal experience in so many ways…
For now, I’m just getting it up here. Last year of the first generation means it has the flip-up headlights. Basically everything on it needs to be replaced, and that’s one reason I keep it - makes more sense to upgrade bad parts than take off good ones. The soft top has a huge rip in it but is covered for now. I pretty well burnt up the clutch once I got home and knew I didn’t need what was already slipping. I have an Exedy Racing clutch that I haven’t installed as well as an SBC 350 bored .030 over and cammed…the project falls to the bottom of the priority list but every so often, something will inspire me and things start to get exciting. I’ll keep ya updated. ;)
